Wood pellets are biomass fuel products made from wood by products such as wood shavings, sawdust, and logging residues. Wood pellets are small in size with a diameter of 6-8mm and 10-32 mm in length. They are compact and high density, which make them easy to store and transport over long distance. Wood pellets have low moisture content (less than 10%) and ash content which result in high combustion and low maintenance cost.
Wood pellets can be used as fuels for power generation, industrial and residential heating, and farming. They have been a popular fuel for home heating during the winter season. In large scale application, thermal power plants have been co-firing wood pellet with coal in order to reduce carbon emissions to the environment. This trend will be upward in the future to protect the environment and reduce climate change impact.
